The wedding takes place along the Estoril coast, a thirty-minute drive west of central Lisbon. The hotel, the church, and the reception are all within walking distance of one another.
Where to Stay
A block of rooms has been reserved for our guests at Hotel Palácio Estoril, a landmark hotel that has hosted royalty, writers, and the occasional spy since 1930. It sits a short walk from the church and the reception, and is where we will gather throughout the weekend.
To book at the group rate, reserve directly on the hotel's website and
enter the code emilypatrick27 at checkout.

Other Hotels Nearby
The Palácio is our home base, but these neighboring hotels are good alternatives if it sells out or if you would simply prefer somewhere else. All are in Estoril or Cascais, a short walk or a few minutes by car from the wedding.

Getting There
Fly into Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS). It is the only major international airport in Portugal and is well connected to the United States and Europe.
From the airport to Estoril is roughly 30–40 minutes by car or taxi. A train along the Cascais line also runs from central Lisbon to Estoril.
On Foot
Once you are in Estoril, every wedding venue is within a short walk of the hotel. No shuttles, no caravans — bring comfortable shoes.
If You Need a Passport
You cannot get on the plane without one, and yours must be valid through at least July 1, 2027. Routine US processing currently runs six to eight weeks, longer when the State Department gets backed up. Start now, not in February.
Never had one. Apply in person at a passport acceptance facility — usually your local post office or library; the official site has a locator. Bring the completed DS-11 form (do not sign it until they tell you to), proof of US citizenship (original birth certificate or naturalization certificate), a photo ID, one passport photo (CVS or Walgreens, around $15), and the fees by check or money order.
Renewing. If your most recent passport was issued in the last fifteen years, when you were sixteen or older, and is undamaged, you can renew by mail with form DS-82. Otherwise follow the in-person route above.
Where to start: travel.state.gov is the only official source for forms, fees, processing times, and a locator for the facility nearest you. Anything else asking for money to "help" you is a scam.
Not a US citizen? Check your country's passport office. The July 1, 2027 validity rule still applies.
Before You Go
ETIAS travel authorization. Starting late 2026, US, UK, Canadian, and other visa-exempt travelers need ETIAS approval to enter the Schengen Zone. €20, applied online, usually approved within minutes, valid three years. March 1327 falls in a six-month transitional period, so you may technically enter without it — but apply anyway. Use the official EU portal only; lookalike sites will charge you more and do nothing for you. Official link added closer to the date
The basics. Portugal uses euros. Contactless payment (Apple Pay, Google Pay, tap-to-pay cards) is accepted almost everywhere. Outlets are European two-pin (Type F), 230V — a basic universal adapter is all you need. English is spoken nearly everywhere; no Portuguese required.
